Comprehensive Plan Kicks Off

Prince George, VA - Prince George County has kicked off its update to the Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan is a broad statement about the community, looking ten to 20 years into the future. It includes specific goals, and strategies to achieve those goals.

The Comprehensive Plan addresses topics such as land use, development, economic development, transportation, and community facilities and services within the County’s jurisdiction. The policies defined in the plan will guide the County’s future direction and priorities for growth, services, and land use regulation.

The Comprehensive Plan will be largely based on direct community input, with opportunities for community engagement running throughout the process. The plan is scheduled to be finalized and adopted in August 2025.

The County’s Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors held a joint work session to kick off the project on Thursday, March 21, 2024. A video recording is available at: https://princegeorgecountyva.new.swagit.com/videos/300538.

The initial community engagement phase will include a community survey, public workshop meetings to be held on May 8, 15, and 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Prince George Library (6605 Courts Dr, Prince George, VA 23875), and focus groups involving key stakeholders occurring in May. The Planning Commission will be overseeing the drafting process, which is expected to begin in Summer 2024 upon the conclusion of the initial community engagement phase.
