I have received a subpoena as a witness for the Commonwealth, but I am unable to be present on the court day. What do I do?
You must appear in court as required by the subpoena unless the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office excuses you from your court appearance. An unexcused failure to appear on your court date could result in your being fined or jailed for contempt of court.
I am a victim and I no longer wish to pursue this matter. Can I drop charges?
The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for Prince George County has a "no drop" policy on all charges. Once charges are filed and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office decides there is sufficient, legally admissible evidence to proceed with the case against the defendant, we will not allow you to “drop the charges.”
I feel that a crime has been committed. What should I do? Do I report the crime directly to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office?
The Police Department investigates crimes and takes action to issue arrest warrants, if evidence suggests that a crime has been committed. If you need to report a crime, call the Police Department at (804) 733-2773 or in an emergency call 911.
