Prince George County Board of Supervisors Approves Ordinance Exempting

Real Estate Reassessments for Calendar Year 2024 (Fiscal Year 2025)

Prince George, VA - On March 26, 2024, the Prince George County Board of Supervisors approved an Ordinance that exempts the requirement for real estate reassessments for calendar year 2024 (Fiscal Year 2025). Prince George County performs real estate reassessments every year. State law generally only requires that reassessments be performed every four years.

In light of questions that citizens raised regarding the calendar year 2024 (Fiscal Year 2025) reassessments, the County has contracted with Vision Government Solutions to verify the accuracy of all reassessments. Vision will also evaluate and reconfigure the Vision Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal database tables. These tables will reflect current market conditions. Beginning in May 2024, Vision will update the value of all real property with an effective date of January 1, 2025.

The next due date for real estate taxes is June 5, 2024. Because Prince George County assesses on a calendar year basis, but taxes are collected on a fiscal year basis, these recent Board actions have no effect on the tax bills due on June 5, 2024. These bills relate to the calendar year 2023 (Fiscal Year 2024) reassessment for which citizens received notice in January 2023.

Residents who received reassessment notices in January 2024 will be notified by letter that the proposed reassessment numbers for calendar year 2024 (Fiscal Year 2025) will not be used.

We recognize that some citizens have found the current process to be both frustrating and confusing. We are working hard to address the issues that have been raised and to ensure greater transparency.

The Property Online Database, provided by Vision, is now live on the Assessor’s Office page of the County website. Citizens can access the property information search tool at: https://gis.vgsi.com/princegeorgeva/Default.aspx.

Additional details will be forthcoming, but if you have any questions, please contact the Assessor’s Office at (804) 722-8629.
