Building Inspections Division Definition
The following definitions shall apply:
Finished square footage: Interior heated or air-conditioned space which is insulated and finished. Examples are: Florida rooms, closets, living areas, toilet rooms, etc. Square footage shall be measured from the exterior walls of the structure.
Unfinished interior square footage: Unfinished interior areas shall be that which have not been insulated and to which the wall and floor finish has not been applied. Examples are: garages, basements, and bonus rooms, which are neither finished nor heated.
Exterior square footage: Exterior areas shall be those that do not have exterior walls and may or may not have roofs. Examples are: exterior porches, screened porches, carports, pole sheds, decks, and similar exterior structures.
Using or occupying structure prior to issuance of certificate: In addition to other penalties, any person who uses or occupies a building or structure prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Use and Occupancy shall pay a penalty of one hundred dollars ($100.00). Payment of such penalty shall be made to the Building Official before the Certificate of Use and Occupancy is issued.
