State Coporation Commission - Registering an Assumed or Fictitious Name
The Clerk’s Office of the State Corporation Commission is the central filing office in Virginia for all certificates of assumed or fictitious name. A certificate of assumed or fictitious name must be prepared on a form prescribed by the Commission.

State Coporation Commission - Register a Corporation, LLC or Limited Partnership
All corporations (foreign and domestic) and limited partnerships conducting business in Virginia must register with the Virginia State Corporation Commission. To become incorporated in Virginia, an organization must file trade names, DBA’s, articles of incorporation and amendments with the SCC.
Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation - State Licensing
DPOR is an executive branch agency that oversees 18 regulatory boards and programs. They have several hundred license types, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers.
All contractors who bid upon or undertake single jobs of $1,000 or more must register with the State Board of Contractors.
Class A - $120,000 or more
Class B - $10,000 - $119,999
Class C - $1,000 - $9,999

The Business Registration System, accessible from the Business One Stop web page, will walk a new business owner through each step they’ll need to complete in order to establish their new business, including:
