Volunteer Program

Last year, over 700 domestic animals were taken into the Shelter through animals at large, owner surrenders, and transfers from other organizations. Many of these animals were adopted or returned to their owners. Others were transferred to other humane organizations. We have maintained a live release rate that is above the national average thanks to community relations, social media presence, and adoption events. Our mission is not possible without our amazing volunteers.

Volunteers at PGAS help the staff with a variety of tasks including dog walking, cat socializing, pet grooming, and photography. All of our volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, be fingerprinted by the county, and be clear of any animal related charges.

To start the volunteer process please fill out the application (click here) and return it to the shelter or email it to arose@princegeorgecountyva.gov. Once your application has been received, the volunteer coordinator will contact you about the next step.

For those interested in volunteering with a group, please fill out the Group Volunteer Form and email it to arose@princegeorgecountyva.gov.
Once your form has been reviewed, a staff member will contact you. Please submit group requests at least one week in advance.
