Virginia Department of Transportation Conducting Slurry Seal Throughout the County

Prince George, VA - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be resurfacing some County roads with a slurry seal February 13th-15th. According to VDOT’s website, slurry seal is a mix of asphalt emulsion and aggregate that is spread over the entire roadway surface. Slurry seals address cracking, weathering, moisture infiltration, roughness, and the loss of friction. The treatment can extend a roadway’s life by four to five years.

Residents should remain alert to temporary traffic patterns while work is underway. The brief removal of vehicles from the street, as well as obstructions such as basketball hoops, may be required when work occurs.

Weather permitting, the schedule for the slurry seal is as follows:
  • February 13-14
    • Robert E. Lee Drive: along the I-295 barrier wall
    • Mount Sinai Road: by the Hunters Ridge subdivision
  • February 14-15
    • Commons Drive and Commons Court: neighborhood behind Dollar General
    • Birchett Drive, Pfost Avenue, Esposito Place, Montreal Avenue, Vancouver Avenue, Quebec Avenue, Perrin Drive, Straccioni Lane, Moncol Drive, Birchett Place: Birchett Estates subdivision
