Happy New Year from CCAM

January 12, 2021

Dear CCAM Community,

We sincerely hope that you and your family enjoyed a safe and healthy holiday season. Our advanced manufacturing community saw many challenges during the past year, as the pandemic has greatly impacted our aerospace industry members in particular. I have been deeply impressed by the resolve of our community to manage through these difficult times while still executing strategies that will enable us to hit the ground running in a post-COVID economy.

At CCAM, since my appointment in late August, we have conducted a deep dive into our research and technical capabilities. We have worked to diversify our industry memberships and increase our appeal on Federal Government funding opportunities, all while enabling us to remain focused on our core research.

CCAM has a rich portfolio of research capabilities with a highlight on our Intelligent Factory capabilities. This skill set is needed across many industry sectors including our newest members: BWX Technologies and Northrop Grumman, and remains, of course, a critical element in delivering value to our long-standing members.

Our vision is to be globally recognized as the key hub in the advanced manufacturing ecosystem in the commonwealth of Virginia. In 2020, CCAM was proud to have been chosen as a Center of Excellence for the Virginia Innovation Partnership Authority. VIPA was established to support the life cycle of innovation, from translational research; to entrepreneurship; to pre-seed and seed-stage funding; as well as acceleration, growth, and commercialization. We are excited for the opportunity to partner with VIPA to be a key resource for delivering advanced manufacturing solutions for Virginia-based companies.

We also want to welcome the news of Virginia-based Phlow Corporation and its quick expansion in the Richmond and Petersburg areas of Virginia to innovatively manufacture pharmaceutical medications. The advanced manufacturing community in the Commonwealth is building by the day!

We know there are still challenges ahead, but we also know we are stronger together; and CCAM will continue its mission to meet the needs of our members and our community in the new year.
