PRINCE GEORGE - A new Amazon fulfillment center has opened in Prince George, bringing 150 jobs to the area. Amazon leaders welcomed new team members on Tuesday, August 4 with a morning of training and activities.

The first item shipped from the new facility - Dog and puppy potty training pads.

“Amazon is proud to provide a safe, innovative work environment in which associates are the heart and soul of our operations,” said Anthony Del Giudice, site leader of Amazon's Prince George fulfillment center. “I am so proud to launch this new, state-of-the-art facility in Prince George, creating more than 150 new, full-time jobs."

This is the tenth fulfillment center in the state since Amazon launched its Virginia fulfillment operations in 2013. The company is leasing 600,000-square-feet of the old Ace Hardware Corporation facility on Hardware Drive.

“On behalf of the Board of Supervisors and the County Economic Development team, I am very excited about the expansion of Amazon in the former Ace Hardware building,” Prince George County Administrator Percy C. Ashcraft said in a press release when the facility was announced in February. “This investment will provide 150 new jobs for our community. The expansion also confirms that Prince George County continues to provide a business climate that is conducive for new and existing businesses to thrive and prosper.”

Fulfillment centers carry a $15 minimum wage and the company says it offers “industry-leading” benefits, including comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) matching and pre-paid tuition for in-demand fields.

Amazon has pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees. Amazon says this will help employees access training for highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retail stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.
