BOS Unanimously Approved a Resolution Declaring Prince George County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary

At the December 10 Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board unanimously approved a resolution declaring Prince George County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary. The Board wishes to express its deep commitment to the rights of all citizens of Prince George County to keep and bear arms by opposing any law that would unconstitutionally restrict the rights under the Second Amendment of the citizens of Prince George County to bear arms.

The Board intends to stand as a Sanctuary County for Second Amendment rights and oppose any efforts to unconstitutionally restrict such rights, and to use such legal means at its disposal to protect the constitutional rights of the citizens to keep and bear arms, including through legal action, the power of appropriation of public funds, and the right to petition for redress of grievances.

Other matters that came before the BOS at its meeting and work session:

• Update on current Walton Elementary School.

• Discussion of transfer of special exceptions.

• Approved on consent a resolution approving an operating agreement between the Prince George County Police Department and The Virginia Port Authority.

• Approved on consent an appropriation in the amount of $47,415.11 for school student support and academic enrichment grant funds.

• Approved on consent an execution of the Crater Regional Workforce Development Board, Local Workforce Area 15, Chief Elected Officials Consortium Agreement.

• Approved on consent a request of the Department of the Army to allow residents to use the Fort Lee Cardinal Golf Club, Ten-Strike Bowling Center, Hideaway, and Sustainer’s Pub.

• Approved on consent a resolution to perform a speed study and maintenance agreement of Arwood Road.

• Received the auditor’s report.

• Received a report on the new Scott Park Master Plan.

• Approved “Turkey Trot Trail” as the name of the new Central Wellness Center Walking Trail.

• Unanimously approved an authorization to sign and submit notarized statement certifying the presentation of FY2018-2019 financial report to local governing body.

• Unanimously approved a budget amendment and appropriation in the amount of $704,232.13 for FY19 School Division carry-over funds.

• Unanimously approved an FY2019-2020 budget amendment in the amount of $109,828 and change to FY2019-2020 position chart to add a full-time Deputy Sheriff, a full-time Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, a full-time apparatus technician and to reclassify one mechanic to apparatus technician.

• Unanimously approved an award of contract not to exceed the amount of $215,377 for architectural and engineering services for the Central Wellness Center Code Compliance Phase I Renovations.

• Unanimously reappointed V. Clarence Joyner, Jr. to the Prince George Planning Commission.

• Unanimously reappointed Peter Clements to the Virginia Gateway Region.

• Unanimously reappointed Stephen M. McDonough to the Crater District Planning Commission.

• Unanimously appointed Tammie Jennings, Patricia Cheek, Darryl Cheek, and Norman Sanford to the US Census Count Committee.

• Unanimously approved a lease agreement for use of a portion of the Prince George Central Wellness Center between the County of Prince George, Virginia and the Rotary Club of Prince George County, Virginia.

• Unanimously approved a special exception request to permit a riding school, riding stable, animal hospital, animal board place, veterinary services, and a gift shop within an A-1, General Agricultural District.

• Unanimously approved an ordinance to amend The Code of the County of Prince George, Virginia relating to eligibility for exemption of eligible persons for real estate exemption.

• Denied a request for a public hearing for January 14 to reallocate funds for the Spring borrowing in a 3-2 vote, with Mr. Brown and Mr. Webb in favor of and Chairman Hunter, Supervisors Carmichael, and Supervisor Waymack dissenting.
